THE NOURISHMENT OF FAITH

Dean karnazes is a runner. He is known as the Ultramarathon Man. He is running across America to benefit Action For Healthy Kids. This is to help fight Childhood Obesity. This is a 12 week event. He is running approximately 40 - 50 miles daily which is the equivilant of two Marathons a day. He started his run in Southern California on Februrary 25th. From California he will make his way through the Southwest passing through Arizona and New Mexico on his way to America's heartland. After running through Kansas, Missouri, Indianapolis and Ohio he will head to the nation's capital, then travel north through Maryland and Pennsylvania before completing his journey in mid May when he runs into New York City. He usually burns up to 9000 Calories every day. He needs massive amounts of calories every day to keep up his strength and to maintain his body weight.
As a Christian how many spiritual calories do you need daily? You have spiritual calories. How many calories do you burn when you worry about a child who is running with the wrong crowd? How many calories do you burn when a friend is hurting? Stress and worries burn physical calories but they burn even more spiritual calories. As Christians our emotional and spiritual calories are being consumed by leaps and bounds every day. We are fighting challenges of life in a fallen world. Each time you open your newspaper and read the headlines we are challenged. There are robberies every day. There are murders. We constantly worry about our friends and families. We pray for them every day. We face the enemy constantly. Stress takes it's toll. We need nourishment to strengthen us. Our faith is our nourishment. We need strength to share our testimony with a friend. We need to encourage others. When we are weak God's never ending faith can enable us to carry on in His name.

I have never heard the words "spiritual calories" before. I like that and you are so right about the things in life that burn them up. I wish I could burn up regular calories as fast as I do spiritual ones.

Take care JT and have a great weekend :-)
