THE LEAP OF FAITH

You are a little scared. You are not sure of yourself. You are facing a challenge. There is going to be a special program at Church. It is about the importance of giving. Stewardship. Tithing. The Pastor knows that you tithe. He wants you to actually stand up, walk up to the front of the church in front of everyone and talk. Are you kidding me? Me? I get nervous talking with one person. You actually think I am going to stand up in front of 200 plus people and talk. Forget it. I can’t do it. I wouldn’t know what to say. I will choke up. Finally after 2 days of talking with myself I agree to do it. I will give it a try. I tell the Pastor I will do it. Then I ask for suggestions. He says for me to just write down what I want to say and say it in front of a mirror. He says that is what he does with his sermon. Then he laughs. I run home and get a pencil and paper. I write and write. I change it 10 times. I write some more. I change it some more. Then I read it in front of a mirror. I never noticed my mouth looks funny when I talk. My mouth is tilted to one side. I hold my mouth straight and try again, and again, and again. I finally get to Church and it’s time. I feel my feet moving. Then it’s over and I am sitting in the pew again. I made it through. God gave me the strength.

One day God is going to give you a task. It could be a big thing or something simple. You are going to have doubts. You are going to be afraid. The request could come from someone else. God may have someone contact you. It could come to you in a dream. Just remember, God will not ask you to do anything unless He gives you the tools to do it. His part is to make sure you are prepared. Your job is to do it. He will do His part. It is up to you to do yours. Take the leap of faith.

I know all too well about public speaking JT, for both church and more frequently when I was working as a township officer (zoning admin.) The best advice from my experience is to remember that your audience can not see the little shakes and tremmers like knees wobbling. Also, try to keep your hands busy in a non-conspicuous way (like with a pen or something while you are talking). These things do help, but God will give you the courage in the first place.

Been there, done that. I don't like to speak in public but on occasion I have been asked to do just that. God always got me through it :-)

God bless and have a great week :-)
