GONE FISHING
My wife and I decided to go fishing. We were going to a nearby lake. We got everything together.
Rod & Reel, worms, chairs, ice chest, sandwiches, chips, crackers, fried chicken, sweaters in June, and we headed out for the lake. Once we arrived I tried out 6 parking spaces. None suited her. We finally settled on a spot 300 feet from the lake. We put rocks under all four wheels so the car couldn't roll into the lake. I looked for the right size rocks ( that one is dirty ) for 30 minutes. Then I unloaded everything. All of it. People thought we were going to camp out for a week. Then it was time to fish. I thought we were ready. Mosquito spray, sunglasses, caps are all necessary for fishing. It is finally time to get down to fishing. I baited her hook ( didn’t hurt the worm ). She threw it into the water. I baited my hook and prepared to throw it into the water. She yells " I've got a bite " so I go over to help. We pull in her line. Worm's gone. I re-baited her hook. She threw it into the water. I go back to my Rod & Reel. Worm's dead. Stiff as a board. I pull it off and rebait my hook. I get ready to cast it upon the water. She yells again " I've got a bite " so I go over to help again. We pull in her line. Worm's gone. I re-bait her hook. She throws it in the water. Again I go back to my rod & reel. Worm's dead. Stiff as a board. I say to heck with it and throw it into the water. She yells " I've got a bite " so I lay down my rod & reel and run to help her. My brand new beautiful rod and reel slides toward the lake. A fish is taking it away. I step on my brand new beautiful rod & reel to stop it from taking a swim in the lake. I hear snap, crackle and pop. Just like the cereal. I help her reel in her 2 inch fish. She says " Honey, have your caught anything?" Needless to say that is a fish tale. Luke Chapter 5 tells about Simon and his friends fishing. They didn’t catch anything. Jesus told them to go out further in the water. They did and caught more fish than they could take into their boat. Sometimes we have to keep trying until the time is right. There is a valuable lesson in this fishing trip. Are you discouraged? You had big dreams. Life disappointed you? Jesus said for them to launch out into the deep and let down your nets. If you find yourself at the end of your rope, depend on the power of the Lord. His presence will make a difference.

I'm hoping that DH and I will get to go fishing sometime this year.
What a great post! Some days are like that for sure. I'll try catching some fish in the deep water in my work. God bless!

Thanks for your comment Karen.
Hi JT,
It is a lot of prep work to go fishing, just like fishing for men. Lots of prep time in the Word before we go out and fish. And then sometimes we have our mind set on doing things one way when God says no look over here, the fishing is better.
Blessings,

Hi JT was here to visit you. You have a very interesting story. Thanks for sharing with us. God bless you and your family.
When I was a little girl one of my favorite songs to sing "Fishers of Men." Your post reminded me of that song again. Thanks for sharing!

I need to hear this message always; when we come to the end of our tether, God is just starting. And when we get to the very end, God is just beginning.
Hello,
just read your post and something that appears funny to do with fish, yet has a hidden meaning happened to my husband and myself this week. I told my husband 'I need to buy some fish for the freezer.' He said 'Oh, I've got a 'haddock', rubbing his head. I said 'I've got 'hakes' and pains too. He said 'Cod' help us. The message for me was:- Sometimes things do not go quite as we might want them, even when we are with other christians (represented by the fish}, but there is always One who will help us.
Thanks for your comment T-Childs.
Thanks for your comment Brenda.
Hi JT, dear friend,
This one is indeed, a great post.
I not only find it interesting, but also full of wisdom, and with moral values as a tale in the end.
I truly enjoy reading your stories, John. I am so glad to have found you in Blogland, John.
Fishing is an art that got its origins in past history, like in Jesus' times. Jesus went fishing with His disciples, but He also fished for men with His words.
I call it, "Life Lessons."
As you may know I am a teacher. I have been teaching all my life, in one way or another. I usually start my teaching with tales from the past, as an introduction to my teaching in the present time. My strategy functions really well, since I love History and The Bible. When I talk about history, people react in different ways. Some folks say, "Don't talk about the past, because it's not good. Look into your present with your eyes in the future." In fact, yesterday is gone, the future is uncertain, and we only have today. Well, what can I say to them? I tell them that every teacher has got her/his own book with teaching techniques, strategies and different methodologies to teach others the same lesson. In my personal case, how could I teach someone, if I don't put myself as an example...Someone who went through it all, and came out alive rescued by the Lord, Jesus Christ, our Savior. If I don't tell my story, nobody will know that I was saved by Jesus, and Jesus only. Many people want to talk about today, our present world, and they do not want to hear about the past. In spite of all the things they may say, I keep insisting that the past is very rich with experience, and we should learn from the past, in order not to do the wrong doings from past bad examples. Needless to say, we learn from the past to make a better present and a much better future, if God allows us to have one. I hear sermons every week. I attend Mass at Church on Sundays. I have learned so much in my almost 6 decades in this world. I teach in my own way. Jesus used parables in His teaching. For example, when you talk about "Gone Fishing," you are using a parable, a tale, a story, a figure of speech to teach your lesson for today. You talk about the past, but it was a memorable experience that could be used in the present time, a certainly worthwhile lesson, John.
Thank you for thinking of me and wishing me happiness!!
You are a super friend, John.
I have been thinking of you too.
I am an old wise lady who is waiting for God to reveal His masterplan for me in this world.
I am waiting for Him, and I'm listening to His voice when He softly whispers into my ear.
When I write a poem, my words could be sad or full of joy, but that is exactly the message I wish to convey. Of course, readers may choose to read whatever I write, or may choose to skip me and read somebody else's posts in Blogland. We all have the freedom to write what we like. John, today's post is excellent. I just love it!!
God bless you, my dear friend, John, and those you love!!
Thank you so much for posting your heartfelt comments in my post!!
You see, I don't fish, I don't hunt, I only give my love to all living species. I am "for life."
Have a blessed time, John!!
Blessings,
Teacher & Poet Starry.
(I got a dream: to publish my book of poems, thoughts, stories.)

JT- went fishing the other day with some friends and three beautiful trout were caught. Just not by me! I did, however, finally master tying the hook on the line using a fishermans knot all by myself.
Faith is the same isn't it...one little step at a time, learning lessons as we go.
Thanks for your comment Suzie.
