A man lost his job. The Plant closed. It moved overseas. We have all heard this story. He worked at the Plant all his working life. Over 20 years. The Pension is gone. The health insurance is gone. He has a wife and two children. What is he going to do? He was a mechanic when he was a young man. He applied for a job as a mechanic. He applied at 5 different Garages. No luck. He started taking odd jobs. He worked in yards. He cut grass. He raked leaves. He could not make car payments. He lost his car. All he had left was an old pick up truck. He could not pay the phone bill. No more phone. His wife was upset and the kids were upset. The next thing to go was Cable TV. He couldn’t pay the bill. He would have lost the TV but it was paid for long ago. He cut back on the food bill. No more expensive cuts of steak. No more eating out at his favorite place. He was worried about his home. He put back every extra penny to make the house payment. What was his greatest loss? He had always gone to Church. He had not been there on Sunday morning for weeks. Why did God let this happen?
The greatest loss is the loss of your own self – and the possibility of being separated from God. All of us have personal crosses to bear. You may have a health issue. You may have an issue with your children. You may have a problem with a relative. You may have a problem with a neighbor. You have a cross to bear. We must take up our personal crosses, endure the losses of life and remain a follower of Christ.
