THE EXAMINATION

It's that time of the year again. Winter is over and spring has sprung. Every year about this time my doctor sets up an appointment for an examination. I don't know why I dislike a physical examination. I am old. I have issues. I have had my share of doctors. Some might say I've had more than my share. I have been told by someone that it's not a test. Go ahead and be quiet. The doctor will check you out and let you know if you need medical attention. You need to know if you have a problem. Just because you feel well right now does not mean that you are in good health. You may have a problem you don't know about. My wife always gives me good advice. I am afraid to not listen to her. I head for the doctor's office. I'm not eager to go but I don’t let her know. We all know that we need this evaluation. We need a check up at least once a year.
The same is true in our spiritual life. We need to stop from time to time and check out our spiritual condition. In our church we have the Lord's Supper. This is an excellent place to check out our beliefs. The Bible says "Let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup" lst Corinthians 11:28. Jesus died for us on the cross. We need to turn to Him to consider the condition of our heart. Search your heart before you drink of the cup. Make sure you are on the right path and then move forward in His name.

We're admonished by scripture to do just that, but I fear that most people ignore that admonition.

So very true. I think we sometimes look at the Lords supper just as a ritual, but let us examine ourselves before partaking and soak in the meaning.
Blessings,
Ken

Thanks for your comment Gorges. It is hard to search your heart if you are not sure everything is in step with God.

Thanks for your comment Ken. There are things we consider a ritual in our Christian Life.

I always ask the Lord to search my heart before I take the Lords supper. It is a special time and a very sacred time for me. Thanks john for the good article!

Thanks for your comment Bill. We all need to search our hearts at times of worship.

Yes, so true.

I am so grateful that my "heart condition" was cured by the Savior's death on the cross. And I am no longer sinfully "terminal" - Jesus rose again to give me eternal life!

Have a wonder-full Easter Sunday!

GOD BLESS!

Thanks for this gentle reminder. So many people in the church these days do it because that just happens to be what is going on. I just wish more people would remember why they are really doing it and what they are doing. Great post and God bless.

Thanks for your comment Ben. There is something going on in the Church all the time. We need to be aware and be prepared to participate in the correct frame of mind that would be pleasing to our Lord.

JT this is an incredible blog, I examine my spiritual self daily constantly keep my ego from taking over as it will if allowed. I ask the Lord to examine me and rid any and all unclean spirits within me on a daily basis. There were times when I felt I should not drink that cup on communion day and didn't. I believe this blog is full of spiritual food for the soul.

I am a new blogger, stop by soon http://www.respectfullyspeaking.blogspot.com

hi. I just found your blog, and I really enjoyed this article. I had never thought of the Lords Supper in that way before... and its entirely biblical, which makes it a double winner. :)

For so many, the LS is just this empty ritual to go through, but even for those that take it seriously, your perspective is useful.

I hope to get a lot from your blog over the next weeks and months! I will be back
