THE AUCTION

It was an Estate Sale. He did not know the family, but his wife did. He did not want to attend the sale, but his wife did. He had a plan. He was going to buy something at the start of the auction with the hope his wife would leave early. He wanted to go home and watch the ball game on TV. The first two items went quick. The third item came up for bid. It was a picture. It looked like an oil painting. The frame was old and the lady in the picture was old. She had a stern look, gray hair, but she had soft loving eyes. This was the one he wanted. The opening bid was ten dollars. He raised his hand. Someone behind him bid eleven dollars. He said twelve. The voice behind him said thirteen. He really wanted that picture and he wanted to go home. He said twenty. The voice behind him said twenty one. He looked over his shoulder to see a young man, jaw firmly set determined to get the picture. He heard his wife whisper in his ear. "That’s the grandson" and he knew the "Grandson" had more of an interest in the painting than he did. He knew that he could not bid twenty two. He was prepared to go up to fifty because he wanted to buy something and go home. But he knew he could not take the picture. It belonged to the young man behind him. It was a picture of his grandmother.
Phillipians 2:3-4 tells us to valud others above ourself. When we forget our own interests to care for the interests of others we see God's name glorified. If you act with kindness toward others your actions will point others to God. Praise His name!

It is stories like this that can display both the better nature of man and the sometimes greed of other people. I attended the Auction of a good friend of mine years ago, with the intention of buying on old rocker that had belonged to his father, and was purchased in a store in missouri in a town where my wife grew up. When I asked the surving son (the only child) if this was indeed his grandfathers rocker, he said he didn't know anything about any of this "stuff". He almost made me sick. He didn't know anything about his father, and didn't care. I bought the rocker as I wanted my friend to look down and know that the chair was in good hands. My wife loves the chair .

This is a great illustration on how we should treat others!

This was a wonderful story - and one that should inspire generosity in our hearts. Can we do anything less when we consider the generous gift of God's grace?

Thanks, JT.

GOD BLESS!

Thanks for your comment anonymous. There are some families that care about their elders but they are few and far between. It seems we are too busy to care these days.

Good story, If it wasn't true, it SHOULDA BEEN! One of the hardest things I've ever had to do was part with most of the knick-knacks passed down to me by older family members of the family when the farm was sold. Every piece had a story.

Thanks for your comment Gorges. These days everyone is into computers (including me. However, we need to hold dear things from our past lest we not forget our heritage.

Prayer for a Christian family.

Pray for family with four children. The children are a gift from God in wonderful ways.
Pray for a selfconfidence and identity for one of the children and choises that needs to be taken for the next school year.
We don't know the way, but God knows. Pray for healing with hearingdissabilities and allergy.
For two other children pray for healing of physical dissabilities.
Pray for the company that God has opened the doors for and the way further.
Also pray for a good and healthy marriage.
Thank you for praying, It is so good to know that someone cares and we thank God who hear our prayers.

Power of prayer is great
and God hears our prayers.
