ASK AND YE SHALL RECEIVE

Everywhere you look these days you can see a fast food restaurant. I was standing in one of these fast food restaurants the other day and after placing my order, I stood to the side and watched everyone do their work. A lady stood at the drive up window with a headset in place. She asked the customer what he wanted. He ordered two cheeseburgers, two small orders of fries, two apple pies and two medium cokes. She told him the price and told him to drive to the next window. I saw the car appear at the next window and a young man handed him the order, the customer handed the young man the money, change was given and the customer drove away. That operation took about 3 minutes. Another customer drove up to the window and the same thing happened again. The lady at the counter gave me my order after getting my attention. I was busy watching everyone else. This was some operation.
Later as I was driving down the road I began to think of our Spiritual Requests. When we pray for the things we need we expect it all to work the same way. We want immediate answers. There are times when we ask for things that might not be best for us. God knows our needs. God knows when He wants to answer our prayers. We must wait on Him. The Bible says His time is different from our time. I looked in the Bible for prayer concerns. After some research I believe God wants us to ask him for things we need. He wants to answer our prayers. Zachariah 10:1 is really interesting. It says to "Ask the Lord for rain in the springtime" even though we know it usually rains in the spring. It says that God gives showers of rain to all people. This tells me that we shouldn't take things for granted. God wants to answer our prayers but He wants us to ask. Don't be afraid to pray to God and ask Him for things you want and need. If you do not ask you will not receive.

In light of your fast food experience, I think John 5:1-15 presents an interesting story about patience in prayer. The man at the pool of Bathesda was ill for 38 years. I imagine he prayed a lot during that time, and he never got any help to get to the pool until Jesus came along and healed him. 38 years is a long time to wait for an answer.

Sometimes when it seems like a really long time of waiting for an answer, I like to quote the psalmist in my prayers, "Remember what my span of life is; For what vanity You have created all the sons of men What man can live and not see death? Can he deliver his soul from the power of Sheol?" (Psalm 89:47-48) I'm just dust that's not going to live forever, God; please answer my prayer.

Amen! We too often want to push the buttons and expect results as though God were a microwave. Galatians 6:9 says; “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”

Keep writing John; you have great things to say.

I will certainly be asking and seeking;we can come to a loving God and ask for ANYTHING as the bible says. God may choose to give us those things or not. He knows what is best for us:)

This is a great post. Yes we as humans tend to want things the way we want it in the time we ask of it. Surely we don't know what He knows.

Again, "Great Post!"

JT, its simple - so many times in the scriptures we are told to ASK, but we just find it hard to at times. God is poised ready to hear our requests, He has the answer, we should simply let go and let God have His way in our lives.

Just discovered your site and enjoying it.

Blessings, Carole in the UK
