THE NAPKIN

Jesus was crucified. He was placed in a tomb. Early Sunday morning Mary went to the tomb and found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance. Mary and Peter went inside the tomb. They noticed the linen wrapping lying there and the folded napkin used to cover Jesus' head was lying to the side. In order to understand the significance of the folded napkin you have to understand Hebrew tradition of the day. When a servant set the table for his master he waited out of sight. If the master was done eating he would wipe his mouth with the napkin, he would wad up the napkin and throw it into the center of the table. The servant would know to clean the table. But if the master got up from the table, folded his napkin and laid it beside his plate, the servant would not dare touch the table because the folded napkin meant, " I am coming back! " HE IS COMING BACK!
